FREE coding sessions, family nature programs at our local parks, holiday book drives and even a chance to swim with Santa are happening around town this weekend. Celebrate Computer Science Education Week in December by joining the Global Hour of Code Movement at The Coder School Register for a FREE session at their facility. (Sessions will also be held Saturday, December 10th & Sunday, December 11th. )

FREE program for preschool children & their families. The Rags to Riches traveling troupe presents a theatrical interpretation of The Owl and the Turtle. 30-minute production. No registration required. Visit your local branch for performance schedule.

For ages 1-3 years with an adult. Discover what is out & about seasonally in the park each month in this program. Experience the natural world and the critters that live in it through stories, hands-on nature activities, games & more. Dress warm for outdoor fun in nature. Register in advance. Cost: $2 per child. Don’t forget to check out Kids Discover Nature: Wildlife Treat Creations on Dec. 5th from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. for ages 2-6 years with an adult.

For ages 6-9 years with an adult. Discover how gingerbread came to North Carolina, and learn what makes it such a special treat. Then listen to a story, and make a ginger-y craft. For ages 3-5 years with an adult. There are a lot of dangers in the woods for deer and rabbits! Read a story about these mammals, practice hiding from predators during a fun game and then make a craft. Cost: $4 per Child. Registration required.
Take time to clear out cluttered shelves of books your kids have outgrown to give those books a second life with a child who needs them. Kindly donate NEW or Gently USED books to promote literacy in our local community. In the spirit of the Holiday Season, Dr. Gina Lee will give YOUR SCHOOL a $1 donation for each book that you donate during the whole month of December 2016.

FREE family program. The Stowell family is abuzz with excitement, and Frankie, the youngest boy, is the most excited of all. But Pa hasn’t returned from his trip and he’d promised to bring back oranges – a holiday treat. Heavy snows might mean no oranges, and, worse, no Pa! Through all this, Frankie learns an important lesson about giving. Come share this heart-warming story written by Patricia Polacco and hear how other people celebrate the winter holiday season. For all ages (adult accompaniment required for all children).Registration is not required.

Have you taken our family to this magical light festival? Enjoy this annual festival with more than 20 all new displays, each one comprised of hundreds of parts, and thousands of LED lights.
