Love Bugs!

Valentine’s Day Skate Party

Wear RED and receive a $1 admission.  Skate rental is $3.50 and Rollerblade rental $4.50.

Bites and Bytes:  Exploring the Science of Valentine’s Day

Tuesday, February 14th.  10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  Kidzu Children’s Museum, Chapel Hill

Drop in for this “bites” and “bytes” projects making chocolate covered pretzel sticks and LED-lit valentines for take home! Make a bite or a byte for $5 each.  Pre-registration is not required but guarantees your space and materials.

Happy Dan the Magic Man

For all ages.  Test your science smarts at the SECU Daily Planet Theatre.  How far is Earth from the center of the Milky Way Galaxy? How many red blood cells are in the human body? Join science correspondent Chris Smith inside the globe of the Nature Research Center for science Q&A with the Pop Sci Quiz Show! Dive into some amazing science facts and learn a little about how we know what we know in the universe.

Garden Gourmet:  Valentine’s Onigiri

Make and taste a special Valentine’s version of onigiri, a Japanese rice snack! Use beets to tint your rice pink, and pair with heart-healthy veggies for a special treat.

NC International Auto Expo

Thursday, February 16th – Sunday, February 19th.  Jim Graham Building at the State Fairgrounds, Raleigh

From classic cars, new production models to concept cars this 30th annual International Auto Expo are showcasing these automobiles for young & old.  Kids can also enjoy the display of race cars, sheriff & highway patrol cars. Cost:  $10 for adults 13 years -60, $5 for ages 6-12 years. FREE for kids under 6.

Friday Night Sports Night

20th Annual Great Backyard Bird Count

Friday, February 17th – Sunday, February 20th.  Wake County Parks (Blue Jay County Park, American Tobacco Trail, Harris Lake County Park, Historic Yates Mill County Park, Crowder District Park & Lake Crabtree County Park) 

Join in this annual, four-day event that encourages bird watchers of every age & skill level to count the birds around us while learning more about each through fun activities.  Wake County Parks have lined programs from bird watching to activities, storytimes, crafts and even a breakfast hike to enjoy The Great Backyard Bird Count.  Click here to see which program your family can jump into.

Youth Art Expo Art Show at The Halle Cultural Arts Center

Friday, February 17th – Friday, March 17th.  Halle Cultural Arts Center, Apex

Youth ages 5-18 years can shine in the spotlight and showcase their artwork on the walls of Halle. Do you have a piece to showcase? Drop off your piece or two by February 11th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. FREE to enter.  Also enjoy Jenn Hales’ work in her Pondering Environment & Culture Art Show.
